Graduate nurses supported in GSAHS
Monday 1 March 2010
Greater Southern Area Health Service (GSAHS) has recruited an extra 47 nurses across 15 sites this week during one of two annual recruitment drives for new graduates.
The first year nurses will undertake induction training this week to familiarise themselves with local staff.
GSAHS Director Nursing and Midwifery Karen Lenihan said the new nurses will be supported with a highly developed and well-resourced education program during their first year.
"Every nurse is immediately networked with local management and educators so they always have someone for clinical or personal support when needed."
"GSAHS also provides a variety of clinical options to ensure nurse graduates gain optimal experience across a range of areas during their first year of service."
The new nursing staff are graduates from several universities including metropolitan centres. Many nurses choose a placement in GSAHS to gain health experience in a rural setting.
"We provide ongoing opportunities for education and support from management to provide our communities with the best of care," Ms Lenihan added.
