Helps raise funds for cancer treatment

Aitken Rowe's Bevan Rowe
Bevan Rowe from 2007 Golden Crow Award winning business, Aitken Rowe Testing Laboratories will challenge his endurance and fitness with a group of thirteen other local friends by traveling to and trekking the Kokoda Track in April this year. The Kokoda Trail is rugged and remote and the trek is recognized as being as rugged as any trek on the planet. The Trail crosses the Owen Stanley Mountain Range from Owers Corner to Kokoda – almost 100km and takes 11 days to complete.
The Trail cuts across knife-edged ridges and over teasing mountains, through virgin rainforest, jungles of ferns and towering trees entwined with creepers. Clean mountain streams tumble into steep valleys. Vine lashed logs pass for bridges. Quaint villages, homely and unspoilt, punctuate the trail.
The physical and relentless aspect of the trek is, of course, most obvious, however to be immersed in the inspiring culture of the people on the trail, coupled with the unique and moving history of the events that took place in the Second World War against the Japanese, will certainly add to the spiritual reward upon completion. To experience the magic of Kokoda, the rugged beauty and the emotional journey will leave indelible memories with all the trekkers.
A major portion of the application fee for this eleven day trek will assist with the development and improvement of the local PNG Health Care Services and programs, along with education funds to assist the schools along the track. Contributing to the development of the local communities is one of the legacies that we leave by embarking on this adventure.
At home in , the trekking group is also raising money and awareness through sponsorship for the Wagga Wagga branch of CanAssist.
CanAssist is an organization that provides support and financial assistance to cancer patients receiving treatment. All money raised as part of this effort will remain locally within the Wagga Wagga branch of CanAssist to assist patients in the local region and is tax deductable.
