Hume Highway workers raise $16,000 for Country Hope

Thanks to the fundraising efforts of workers and subcontractors on the Northern Hume Alliance (NHA), Wagga-based charity Country Hope has a new people-mover to transport children and their families to specialist medical treatment.

Country Hope provides family support programs and assistance to country children diagnosed with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

Workers on the NHA project raised more than $16,000 from weekly site BBQs and other fundraising activities over the past few months. The Northern Hume Alliance (NHA) partner companies, Leighton Contractors, Coffey Geotechnics, Maunsell Aecom and Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation (SMEC) contributed the remaining $16,000 to purchase a seven-seat Ssangyong Stavic.

The new vehicle will be officially handed over to Country Hope this Friday 20 February 2009 at 10.30am (time TBC) at the Northern Hume Alliance Zone 2 compound near the intersection of Tumbarumba Road and the Hume Highway, Kyeamba Hill.

Representatives from Country Hope and the NHA partner companies will be present for the handover as well as one of the families being assisted by Country Hope.

“The vehicle is already in constant use transporting families and children from throughout the Riverina to hospitals and other venues for treatment,” said Country Hope CEO John Studdert.
