View Great Escape Brochure

The Great Escape is Cystic Fibrosis Australia’s major fundraising initiative and in 2009 will run from Wagga Wagga to Port Macquarie via the Burke & Wills Dig Tree, 12 to 22 October 2009.

This year will be the 8th rally. We currently have 50 rally cars registered and expect to have approx. 180 people on the rally.  In 2008 the rally raised over $350,000 for Cystic Fibrosis research and we hope to better that figure again in 2009.

This event began in 2002 and this will be our 8th rally with the route this year being Wagga Wagga to Port Macquarie via Cameron’s Corner & The Dig Tree raising funds & awareness for Cystic Fibrosis Australia, research.

The Great Escape has forged a unique identity as being a friendly, laid back motoring event that caters for all walks of life. You could be a car buff who loves nothing more than to drive the Australian outback, or perhaps you are keen to get away with family and friends and try something a little different. You may like the antics that go with a fun car rally and love dressing up and being really loud and colourful - all in the name of having FUN - while raising funds and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis (CF) of course!

Our beloved Road Boss has an uncanny sixth sense in seeking out and finding hidden treasures in some of the remotest parts of the Australian countryside, so you can be assured you won't find anything quite like The Great Escape!

The Great Escape is a car rally that has always been a little different, a little unpredictable and a lot of fun and 2009 will not disappoint.

The Great Escape entrants will begin to converge on Wagga from the 11th onwards in preparation.  We begin the event with a street parade through the main shopping precinct and we hope to get as many people there for the send off as possible.

Teresa Carlson:

I am myself an active entrant in the event and am a passionate advocate for CF.  In the past 5 years alone I have raised in excess of $250,000 and the passion stems from losing our beautiful youngest daughter, Michelle to this debilitating disease.  Cystic Fibrosis is the most common life threatening disease affecting our children today and there is no cure.  With every $1 raised, it brings us closer to better treatment & ultimately a cure.
