The city has experienced a surge in manufacturing since the early 2000s, and plans have been drawn up for Council’s Bomen Business Park to develop road and rail links to help reduce costs and promote growth.

Major contributors to the local economy include Charles Sturt University and two defence establishments, RAAF Base Wagga and Kapooka Army Recruit Centre.

Wagga Wagga is also working to become Australia’s pre-eminent agricultural research centre, and is fostering partnerships with industry and government to achieve that goal.

Already we boast one of the largest agricultural research groups in Australia, the E. H. Graham Centre for Agricultural Innovation, a joint project between Charles Sturt University and the NSW Department of Primary Industries.

Our innovation doesn’t end there. The City Council has a vision for Wagga Wagga to become the Global Water Smart City by 2015. International expertise at Charles Sturt University, through the UNESCO Regional Office for the UN’s HELP program, will enable us to develop a range of water-smart initiatives that will have application worldwide.
