The Bahá’í Faith has no clergy and is governed by councils, elected at the local, national and international levels.  Every member of a Bahá’í community over the age of 21 is eligible for election, and nominations, campaigning and electioneering are not permitted.

Local governing councils are referred to as “Local Spiritual Assemblies” and are elected annually.  The Spiritual Assembly is responsible for running the affairs of the community and consult regularly with its members.

The first Local Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of Wagga was elected on 24 March 1984 when there were enough Bahá’ís for the election to take place.  There are nine members serving on Spiritual Assembly and are elected by secret ballot from its membership.

The unity of the human race is the central teaching of Baháú’lláh (1817-1892), prophet and founder of the Bahá’í Faith

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the formation of fist Spiritual Assembly in Wagga although Bahá’ís have been here since early 1960s.

The celebration will take place on 23 May and several former members of the Wagga Bahá’í community are planning to join the local community for this celebration.  Other members of the community have also been invited for this celebration and Concillor Kerry Pasco, Mayor of Wagga will also be attending.
