Time’s running out to nominate for WWCC’s Advisory Committees

Wanted! Residents who would like to give advice to Wagga Wagga City Council on issues relating to art, seniors, youth, recreation, multiculturalism, indigenous or business. There are only three days left to nominate to be a member of Council’s seven new Advisory

Committees with applications to close next Monday, 16 February.

The committees were established on 15 December last year as part of Council’s aim to engage with the community.

Over the last few weeks, Council has been calling for applications from residents, members of organisations, clubs and the business sector to serve on the committees.

The committees will provide advice and recommendations to the relevant Council Standing Committee.

Committees are:

•    Arts Advisory Committee. Members are to be involved in the development and implementation of Arts and Cultural policy, as well as issues relating to the Civic Theatre, Art and Glass Galleries, City Library and the Museum of the Riverina.
•    Seniors’ Advisory Committee
•    Youth Advisory Committee
•    Recreation and Sports Advisory Committee
•    Multicultural Advisory Committee
•    Indigenous Advisory Committee
•    Business Advisory Committee. Members will discuss issues relating to commercial and economic development.

Council’s General Manager Lyn Russell said the new Advisory committees would play a key role in ensuring that Council's policies were relevant, timely and formulated with sound community input.

“Council is aiming to enhance public participation through these committees and I encourage residents who are interested in any of the subjects or issues, to fill out a simple application form.”

Expressions of Interest close at 5pm on Monday, 16 February. Application forms and information packages are available from Council’s

website www.wagga.nsw.gov.au or from the Customer Service counter in the Civic Centre.
