Wagga Wagga City Council will extend the operation hours of its ranger services to include Saturdays, commencing on 18 September.

Council’s Director Environment and Community Services, Janice Summerhayes said Regulatory Services staff moving to six days per week will have several benefits to the community.

“The services provided on Saturday’s will include additional opening hours of the Glenfield Road Animal Shelter, increased patrols for littering, dumped rubbish and parking enforcement,” Janice Summerhayes, Director Environment and Community Services said.

“The extension of hours to include the busy Saturday trading period will include the enforcement of parking zones, including bus and taxi zones, loading zones and mobility parking areas in the CBD on to ensure the traffic flow for all stakeholders is maintained.

“It will also mean additional opening hours at the Glenfield Road Animal Shelter, which will be open from 1 – 4:15pm each Saturday afternoon, enabling a greater availability for the rehousing of animals by allowing families to attend at a time that is more convenient to them.

“Council identified the need to expand its hours of operation in a bid to enforce parking zones, reduce illegal rubbish dumping and address animal management issues, as part of a three month trial conducted last year.

“Due to the significant improvements in service delivery to the community during the trial of the extended operational hours of the ranger services last year, the decision was made to make it a permanent initiative,” she said.
